Nearly 26 years later, Selena is still an icon in not only the Latino community but music as well. Her star power was something to see and it only gained more and more momentum. She’s still in the hearts of many people and the Selena Series on Netflix is still trending.
Even after a quarter-century, people are still fascinated by her death. Here are some of the chilling details of her demise:
Selena Was Able to Identify Her Killer
Her fan club manager and associate, Yolanda Saldivar, apparently shot her once. Selena was trying to get away and told the motel staff to “Lock the door! She’ll shoot me again!” Her last words before she collapsed was “Yolanda..158.”
They Had a Falling Out
Saldivar and Selena had an argument over some money regarding Selena Etc (her shop). The motel staff heard them arguing loudly, and some witnesses even heard that Selena said that Saldivar was untrustworthy.
Ambulance Got There in Two Minutes
Richard Frederickson, a paramedic, saw that Selena was bleeding out quite a bit and he knew then that it was too late to save her.
Erratic Heartbeat Wasn’t Enough
While the staff was able to get an erratic heartbeat out of Selena, it wasn’t enough to repair the damage the one bullet did after trying to get her in stable condition.
An Autopsy Was Conducted in Three Hours
Just 3 hours after Selena was shot, an autopsy was made because of popularity and the public outcry. The bullet severed her right subclavian artery, which is unfortunate because just a millimeter in any other direction would’ve been less critical.
Death Made for Better Promotion
Due to all the media attention surrounding her death, her album sales skyrocketed from 500,000 to 3,000,000 copies sold. Additionally, she became the catalyst to exposing the Tejano genre worldwide.
