The death of Catrine da Costa is still a mystery over 36 years later. Here dismembered parts were found all over Solna, Sweden (except the head). Here are some interesting things to note about this tragic event:
Catrine da Costa’s Head Was Never Found. Whoever was the killer ended up being a professional at what they do because all parts of the body were split up in trash bags across Solna, but her head, organs, and private areas were not found.
Härm May Have Been Responsible. Harm was a forensic pathologist and his wife, Anne Catherine, committed suicide in 1982. He worked at Karolinska Institute, which was where some of Costa’s body parts were found.
Costa Was Last Seen on Malmskillnadsgatan. Costa was apparently a sex worker that was frequently in Malmskillnadsgatan, which was a Red Light District in the 1970s and 1980s.
Books and Movies Were Inspired By the Incident. Steig Larsson’s “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” was a book inspired by the case, and eventually turned into a movie in 2011.
Sweden’s Statute of Limitations Says That No One Will Be Charged. The murder occurred back in 1984, so it’s been more than 25 years since new evidence has been brought up. The statute of limitations in Sweden won’t allow for anyone to be tried due to the expiration date being long gone.
